easy homemade pizza crust recipe

This pizza crust recipe is great for a family pizza night! Use it as your go to for all things pizza, cheese bread, and more! Get the full recipe and tips for a better pizza crust here…

Pizza Crust Tastes Plain

This can be a problem because your main pizza chain restaurants basically always flavor their crust! To avoid the problem of your crust tasting like cardboard try thinking outside the box with different seasoning combinations. Here are a few to try:

  • Garlic butter
  • Italian (use an Italian seasoning mix)
  • Garlic and herb
  • Cajun butter
  • Pepper Flakes

Get creative and see if it helps step up your pizza game!

Here’s another idea when it comes to plain tasting crust- stuff it!

There are few who will disagree that stuffed crust pizza is better. My favorite way to stuff a crust is with ground sausage and mozzarella cheese! It’s amazing dipped in some marinara sauce. It also helps the pizza last longer because it is so filling.

Pizza Crust Tastes Yeasty

I had this problem for years while trying to come up with the type of crust recipe I wanted. You put in all that hard work just to get to the end and it taste like I just poured some pizza sauce over yeast! I think this is where a lot of people give up on homemade pizza crust. Here are a few ways you can correct a yeasty tasting pizza…

  • Make sure you let the dough rise sufficiently. A good rule of thumb when working with any kind of dough is to let it double in size.
  • Check to make sure your yeast is in date. Store yeast in the refrigerator, it will stay fresh longer
  • Avoid fast or quick rise yeast.
  • Dissolve yeast all the way before using.
  • Use enough honey or sugar to offset the yeast flavor.

If you are still having yeast problems after trying the solutions above it may be that the recipe you are using just is not for you.

Crust Does Not Rise

This can be an issue if you have not allowed to dough to rise sufficiently before baking. When dealing with most rising doughs you are working with a two-three rise system. Simply meaning that before it will rise during the baking process you must first allow the dough to rise.

After mixing all of your ingredients and kneading the dough you need to let it rise by doubling in size. This could take several hours depending on your climate and the temperature of your house. Yeast and sourdough react to heat. If you are having trouble getting a good rise try these tricks below.

The Height Method

We all know that heat rises. Try placing your dough somewhere high during a rise. On to of your refrigerator, on a high cabinet or shelf are a few ideas.

The Oven Method

This one never fails me! You have two options: one, place the bowl of rising dough on the stovetop of a heated oven. The heat from the oven will cause the dough to rise. Two, heat your oven to 350 degrees for ten minutes then turn it off. After the oven has cooled down but is still decently warm, place the dough in the warm oven and allow to rise.

Be careful not to let the dough over rise or it may have a slightly yeasty taste.

Now that we have covered the basic tips for a homemade pizza crust let me share with you my favorite recipe!

I hope you enjoy this and that it turns out great. Remember you can be creative with seasoning and stuffing the crust. Here I will just give the basic crust recipe and you can add your own spin on it with the fun stuff!

Homemade Pizza Crust

Delicious homemade pizza crust that does not taste "homemade".
Print Recipe Pin Recipe
Prep Time 30 minutes mins
Cook Time 25 minutes mins
Total Time 55 minutes mins
Servings 2 med/large pizzas

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp active, dry yeast (not fast rising)
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 tsp honey (or 1 tsp sugar)
  • 5 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 egg
  • 3 1/2-4 cups all-purpose, unbleached flour

Instructions

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer (or regular large bowl if you do not own a stand mixer) add the rest of ingredients in the order they appear above. If using a stand mixer you may need to switch to dough hook as dough becomes thicker.
  • Knead until smooth. (About 15-20 minutes in the stand mixer.)
  • On a floured surface shape the dough into two even balls. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size.
  • Pre-heat oven to 350 degree.
  • After dough has risen sufficiently, roll out on a floured surface. Roll out dough until it is about a 1/8-1/4 inch thick. Place on pan or pizza stone and shape crust.
  • Bake crust for 5 min. without sauce or toppings.
  • Add sauce and toppings then bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
  • Allow the pizza to cool about 8-10 minutes before cutting.

Notes

This recipe makes two medium/large pizzas or one large pizza and a side like bread sticks, garlic knots, etc.

Recipe by Jimmy Ruckman

Introducing smoking, grilling, and over-the-fire recipes from my awesome, “smoking” hot husband! (His dad jokes are obviously rubbing off on me!)

My husband Jimmy has always enjoyed cooking and experimenting in the kitchen. He has a sixth sense for using herbs and seasonings to maximize flavor of each recipe. If you are a man (or woman) wanting to get out of your comfort zone and into the kitchen you have come to the right place! Jimmy will be sharing simple, easy to understand recipes here monthly.

*Because we understand that not everyone has a smoker available we have also created adapted instructions on how to make this in your oven. Cook time and temperature will be adjusted (it will not take as long as mentioned below in the recipe section).

Smoked Bacon Breakfast Roll

A delicious breakfast made with a labor of love! This smoked breakfast roll made with bacon, sausage, eggs, and cheese takes about seven hours to make but it is worth every minute.
Print Recipe Pin Recipe
Prep Time 30 minutes mins
Cook Time 6 hours hrs
Total Time 7 hours hrs
Course Breakfast, brunch
Cuisine American
Servings 2 Rolls

Equipment

  • Smoker or Oven
  • Large sheet pan
  • Large Skillet

Ingredients

  • 2 packs regular cut bacon
  • 2 lbs breakfast sausage
  • 1 medium size potato
  • 1/2 lb block pepper jack cheese
  • 6 scrambled eggs
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1 tsp dried sage
  • 2 tsp chives
  • 2 chopped jalopenos
  • Full Metal Jacket seasoning to taste
  • Onion powder to taste

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup Barbecue Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning

Instructions

Instructions for Cooking on a Smoker

  • 1. Begin by firing up the smoker. You will need to maintain a temperature of between 200-260 degrees the entire cook time. 230 is a good temperature to shoot for. This will effect your cook time. Higher temperature will take about four hours. Lower temperatures will take up to six hours.
  • 2. Scramble six eggs and season as desired.
  • 3. Shred a medium sized potato with a cheese grater.
  • 4. Weave both packages of bacon separately on a flat surface as pictured. Weaving involves crossing horizontal and vertical stripes of bacon under one piece and above another.
  • 5. Divide uncooked sausage into one pound portions and spread on top of bacon weave (about a 1/4in thick). Then begin to build your roll by adding sliced cheese pieces to cover sausage, cover cheese slices with cream cheese, and add shredded potato on top of cream cheese.
  • 6. Add additional seasonings to taste. (Optional: drizzle honey on top of unrolled weave for extra flavor.)
  • 7. Gently and tightly roll up the bacon weave.
  • 8. Place on an old sheet pan. Combine topping ingredients and drizzle on top of both rolls.
  • 9. Place in the smoker for 4-6 hours being careful to maintain a temperature of around 230 degrees.
  • 10. After cooking thoroughly you may want to sear the rolls in a skillet to give the bacon the desired crunchiness. This step is optional depending on your preference.

Instructions for Cooking in the Oven

  • 1. Follow instructions 1-8 above, only preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  • 2. Cook rolls in the oven for 2-3 hours. If you notice the rolls are becoming too cooked on top cover them with aluminum foil to prevent burning.

Notes

* Checking bacon weave for doneness: Because of varying temperatures on the smoker you may be concerned if the rolls are completely cooked. You can check by inserting a thin knife into the side of the roll. If the sausage is cooked thoroughly (is not pink) it is safe to say it is complete.

how to make flatbread from scratch

What sides go well with flatbread?

There are a lot of sides that would go great with this recipe! Sweet potato fries (pictured above) are a good option. Regular potatoes cooked in a cast iron skillet, fried onion rings, salads, and chips with salsa would be wonderful choices.

Because the flatbread is so savory, anything that has more of a sweet/salty taste really ties things together for a top notch meal!

Click here for more quick and easy dinner ideas!

How to Serve Flatbreads

You can always serve them plain (as pictured above) if you are cooking for yourself or your family. Another option if you are making for a group or party would be to make them in a rectangular shape and cut them in triangular pieces to serve as a small snack or finger food. If serving to toddlers it may be easier for them to eat if you shape them in small bite size circles.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • Extra oil to coat pan

Top with any sauce, veggies, meat, and cheese!

You can make flatbread crust ahead of time for convenience and store in the freezer for up to six months. Just pull them out to defrost a few hours before your meal and they are ready to go!

If you have leftovers you can easily store them in an airtight container or a ziplock bag. it is important to keep them flat so all the toppings do not fall off in the process of storage. They are fine to store in the refrigerator for up to four days.

The Best Potatoes for Potato Soup

Many varieties can be used in potato soup, each one adding their own unique flavor. The basic guideline when it comes to making potatoes for soup is to choose a variety with mild flavor and that does not break down too easily when cooking. For this reason, potatoes to avoid would be- yellow potatoes, Idaho potatoes, and small/petite potato varieties.

In my experience the best varieties for soup making are Russet and Red potatoes. Russet breaks down a bit more than red, however, it holds well enough to give those delicious full potato bites. Red potatoes take a while to break down when cooking and give a mildly bold flavor to soups. The best part about either of these options is that the skins can be left in tact and add to the flavor of the soup!

Ingredients for Potato Soup

Making potato soup is a great place to start if you are new to the from scratch cooking game. It is simple, easy, and pretty much fail proof. The ingredients list is also simple. Here’s everything you need…

  • Chicken Broth (learn how to make your own bone broth using this recipe!)
  • Water
  • Butter
  • AP Flour
  • Potatoes (Red or Russet are best)
  • Mild Cheddar Cheese
  • Real Bacon or bacon bits (topping; optional)
  • Sour Cream (topping; optional)

Potato Soup from Scratch Recipe

Ingredients

32 oz. chicken broth

16 oz. water

1/2 stick butter

3 tsp. flour

6-8 large russet potatoes

8 oz. mild cheddar cheese

Bacon (optional; use as much as you desire)

Instructions

1. Begin by peeling and dicing six to eight large russet potatoes. The amount depends on your preferred thickness.

2. Boil the potatoes on high heat for 8-10 minutes or until tender when checked with a fork.

3. Set potatoes to the side (I put mine in the crockpot so I could easily reheat the soup later.) Add 16oz. of hot water.

4. In a medium pot melt 1/2 stick of butter on med-high heat. After butter has melted add three tsp. flour. Whisk together until thickened.

5. Add 32oz. chicken broth to butter/flour mixture. Bring to a boil then lower heat to med-low.

6. Add cheese 1/4 cup at a time until completely melted. Add additional seasonings (salt, pepper, creole, rosemary, thyme).

7. Cook bacon if desired. Add broth mixture to potatoes and gently stir.

Served best with grilled cheese!

If you enjoy these recipes I would love to hear from you! What are your favorite cold season meals?

How to Make Southern Style Biscuits From Scratch

Learning to Make Southern Style Biscuits

It seems like one of the main requirements of being a grandma should be passing down a killer biscuit recipe! Hopefully you had that awesome southern Granny (or you are her!) that did not disappoint you in the biscuit department. For those of us who were less fortunate, we can thank God for a wonderful lady named Sarah Voyles who patiently took the time to teach me!

*Just to be clear, I have two amazing grandmothers and I am very thankful for them both! I am sure they probably would have taught me to make biscuits had we lived a little closer. Due to the distance between us (North Carolina to Michigan) and short periods of time together throughout the years we never got around to biscuits.

Enter Mrs. Sarah Voyles! She is a wonderful wife, superstar mother of ten, “Grand-mommy” to many, and an all around amazing Christian lady.

At age eighteen I had no idea how to make biscuits from scratch. While staying at the Voyles’ home, I was asked to make the biscuits for Saturday breakfast (Saturday breakfast is a pretty big deal!). The task involved making biscuits for up to about fifty hungry people who would gather there to eat and fellowship. Instead of changing her mind and asking one of the many others there who were capable of doing the job on their own, Mrs. Sarah very patiently walked me through the biscuit making process.

Timeout: Some Lessons We Could All Learn From Sarah

  1. Allow others to help! Mrs. Sarah was not afraid to delegate tasks that needed done to pull this breakfast off. I see many women who stress when feeding ten people, much less fifty. Learn to loosen up and let others help out, even if they do not do things exactly like you!
  2. Be willing to teach others. If you know a skill and see that someone else is desiring to learn, help them out! Many women reach the age where they either want to give too much assistance to those who are younger (to the point of meddling), or they give no help/advice at all. Balance in this area is key. We younger ladies need your know how!
  3. Have some patience. When others do not know the things you know, do not be discouraging or negative, just be patient! You did not learn everything you know in a day, do not expect others too. Answer all the silly little questions. Deal with all the many mistakes new learners make with grace and kindness.

Extra: My Big Biscuit Blunder!

I thought I would add this funny tidbit to my biscuit learning story.

With the help of Mrs. Sarah I was able to accomplish the job! We made the biscuits early in the week, froze them, and planned to throw them in the oven when needed. Saturday morning came around and we were all in the kitchen early trying to get things ready for the company coming later in the day. My biscuits looked great! They were the right size and texture, light and fluffy. However, one bite and you knew something went very wrong on my biscuit making journey!

Mrs. Sarah’s teaching style was to give you the necessary information but let you do the work on your own so you could better learn how to do things. I followed all the instructions but somehow got the canisters of baking ‘soda’ and baking ‘powder’ confused!

They were still edible, just very salty tasting. Mrs. Voyles was very kind about it, despite the fact that I literally messed up biscuits for fifty people! I can laugh about this now, but I was very disappointed in the moment!

Moral of the story- pay very close attention to your powder and soda. When you do, biscuits turn out much better!

Recipe for Southern Style Biscuits

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 1/2-1 3/4 cup milk (or buttermilk)

Makes approximately 20 medium size biscuits.

How to Make Southern Style Biscuits

homemade biscuit ingredients

1. Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.

2. Cut butter into sixteen, tablespoon slices. Add butter to dry ingredients. Using your hands, mix the butter in with the flour mixture. Your goal is to get flakey pieces of dough. Use your fingers to gently break up the bigger clumps.

3. Add one cup of milk. Mix together using your hands. Then add additional 1/2 cup of milk. If dough is still too dry, add another 1/4 cup of milk. The goal is to get a somewhat sticky, bulky dough. (See picture below for dough texture.)

4. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.

5. Flour surface and your hands.

6. Gently place the dough on the floured surface. Mash flat with hands until dough is about 1/4 inch thick. You may need to sprinkle a little flour on top of the dough to keep from sticking to your hands.

6. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or glass mason jar. (I use a jelly jar.) Once you have cut out all the biscuits you can, re-gather remaining dough and follow step 6 until all the dough is used.

7. Lightly spray a cookie sheet or cast iron skillet with cooking spray or coat with a thin layer of oil.

8. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Tips and Tricks for Better Biscuits

1. It is easier to cut and add in the butter while it is cold, not room temperature.

2. The key to fluffy, soft biscuits is to not overwork the dough. This simply means when mixing dry and wet ingredients you want to work with the dough as little as possible. The dough does not have to be smooth, you actually want a somewhat rough, clumpy texture. When rolling and cutting out the biscuits try to make as little contact with the dough as possible.

3. You can freeze biscuit dough if you only need a certain amount and use the rest when needed.

Making Dinner From Scratch

I came up with this recipe as I was making super one night a few weeks ago…sometimes that turns out great, other times no so much! If you have followed the blog posts from the beginning you know that I am trying to move away from as much processed food as possible for health and financial reasons. One area I am trying to focus on and perfect is making our own sauces and condiments from scratch. It is an enjoyable process to make and entire meal without opening a single can of processed sauce!

Creamy Spinach Chicken Sauce Making Techniques

For this sauce, and other cream sauces, you can follow this basic technique to get a quality sauce every time! Once you have become familiar with it you can whip up any kind of cream sauce using these simple steps. This technique is perfect for homemade cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, etc.

Step One: Begin with a hot skillet and melt desired amount of butter on low heat.

Step Two: Once butter has fully melted, add flour. Whisk flour and butter together to create a thick gummy substance. Be careful not to leave flour and butter unattended at this time or it will scorch.

Step Three: Add broth (or specific liquid mentioned in the recipe you are following) slowly, mixing in between to fully dissolve flour/butter mixture. Turn the heat up to medium and stir intermittently with a whisk until the sauce has thickened.

After you have followed these basic steps you can begin to add seasonings and additional ingredients to make whatever sauce you need!

Extra Tip: If you want a thicker sauce, start with less broth. If you want a thinner (runnier) sauce, use more broth.

Serve Creamy Spinach Chicken with a loaf of Cheddar Sourdough Pull-apart Bread (get the recipe here!).

Recipe for Creamy Spinach Chicken

Ingredients

  • 2lbs. thawed chicken breasts
  • 3-4 handfuls spinach
  • 4 tbsp. butter
  • 2 tbsp. flour
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 3 heaping tbsp. sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • Optional- 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp. paprika

Instructions for How to Make Creamy Spinach Chicken

1. Mince garlic and shred cheese.

2. Place chicken in a large skillet and cook on low-medium heat. Season as desired. TIP: Cover with lid while cooking for tender chicken.

3. In another skillet, on low heat, cook spinach and garlic until spinach has wilted down and garlic is aromatic, about 4-5 minutes.

4. Shove the spinach and garlic to one side of the skillet and melt butter on the other side. You can totally remove the spinach until later if that is easier for you.

5. Once butter has completely melted, whisk in flour. Be careful to stir constantly until well incorporated.

6. Add chicken broth slowly until the flour mixture has fully dissolved. TIP: If your chicken is done cooking, add the chicken juice to the broth mixture as well. This gives amazing flavor and zero waste on the chicken!

7. Turn heat up to medium and allow the broth to simmer. Stir with whisk intermittently until sauce thickens.

8. Add sour cream and cheese. Stir until everything has melted.

9. Add salt, pepper, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.

10. Add cream sauce to chicken and allow to sit for 10-15 minutes.

Served best over rice and mashed potatoes.

My Favorite Easy Summer Desserts

Dessert #1: Cherry Pie Casserole

This dessert is so easy to make! I know I recently posted a recipe and said that I try to make everything from scratch here. Well…I sort of cheated this time! You could easily turn this into a from scratch recipe but I had all the ingredients to make this in less time with less effort so I went for it.

Here’s what you need:

  • 2 cans of crescent roll dough (pie dough would work as well)
  • 21 ounce can of cherry pie filling
  • 8 ounce block of softened cream cheese
  • 1 cup of sugar

Instructions

1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9×13 casserole dish.

2. In a bowl or stand mixer, combine pie filling, cream cheese, and sugar. Mix together until creamy and well incorporated.

3. In a greased 9×13 pan press one can of crescent roll or pie dough in the bottom and sides. If you are using crescent dough you will need to pinch the creases together first.

4. Add the fruit mixture to the pan.

5. Top with the second can of dough. OPTIONAL: Sprinkle the top with extra sugar.

6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

Best served warm with vanilla bean ice cream!

Dessert #2: Fruit Cookie Dessert

This from-scratch dessert is another easy way to enjoy the taste of summer! I love baking seasonally because I feel like it helps me slow down and fully enjoy the moments I am in. This one is a top favorite! (Confession- I literally ate half of it by myself, over a few days of course!)

Ingredients for Cookie

  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1/4 cup liquid or melted coconut oil (or any other kind of oil)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 1/2 cups flour

Ingredients for Frosting and Topping

  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 1/2 – 3 cups powdered sugar
  • Topping: fruit of your choice

2. In a bowl or stand mixer combine sugar, butter, and oil. Mix together until creamy.

3. Add eggs, vanilla, salt, and baking powder mixing together one at a time.

4. Add flour 1/2 a cup at a time. Dough should not be sticky at all. If it is, you may need to add more flour.

5. Press dough into sheet pan and bake for 10-12 minutes.

6. While the cookie dough is baking, combine softened cream cheese, milk, and powdered sugar to a large bowl or stand mixer. Mix together until creamy then place in the refrigerator until needed. If frosting is too runny add more powdered sugar.

7. Wash and cut desired fruit.

8. Allow the cookie to cool to room temperature.

9. After the cookie has cooled, remove frosting from the refrigerator and spread on top. Add desired toppings.

This makes us much more self sufficient, not relying on certain grocery shelves to be our only source of supply. While I still have a long way to go in achieving maximum independence in all areas, I have managed to break away from all store bought bread products. This enables us to enjoy our won bread that is much healthier for us!

One very easy bread product to begin making on your own are these homemade flour tortillas. (Not to mention they are so fun to make!) They can be used for taco shells or you can stretch them to burrito size depending on what you are using them for.

While you’re at it, make your own taco seasoning!

Step by Step Instructions for Homemade Flour Tortillas

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Prepare your skillet by heating a thin coat of oil on low-medium heat.

2. Mix all the ingredients together. You may need to use your hands. Add more flour if necessary. You want a soft, pliable texture but not sticky.

3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 2-3 minutes or until dough is pliable. Mold dough into a round ball and cut into 8 equally sized triangles (or as equally as you can). If making for tacos, for a thinner tortilla cut into 10 triangles.

4. Roll each triangle into a ball.

5. On a floured surface begin shaping each ball into a tortilla with a rolling pin. I like to flatten the ball with my hand first. You can make them as thick or thin as you prefer. Stretch them extra big for burritos.

6. Gently place the tortilla in the hot skillet. Cook for about two minutes per side or until brown spots have formed.

7. Once done, place on a plate. (Optional: put paper towel underneath to absorb any excess oil.)

8. Repeat this process with the remaining tortillas.

Tips and Notes for Success

*I have only ever made these using a cast iron skillet. You may need to adjust heat to medium instead of low-medium if you are using a non-cast iron method. You could also make these on a griddle two or three at a time for quicker results!

*If you find that the dough wants to stick to your countertop or rolling pin even after the surfaces have been floured, sprinkle some extra flour directly on the tortilla until sticking stops.

*You may need to reapply another thin coating of oil halfway through. Make sure you do not over oil or your tortillas will be very greasy (learned this from experience!).

I hope you enjoy learning to make these delicious homemade flour tortillas! Please comment below if you have any questions or need additional information. Also, if you make these using a non-cast iron skillet I would love to hear how it went for you!

homemade soft flour tortillas

Homemade Flour Tortillas

Quick and easy homemade flour tortilla recipe for soft and fluffy tortillas you can make in a flash!
Print Recipe Pin Recipe
Prep Time 12 minutes mins
Cook Time 5 minutes mins
Total Time 17 minutes mins
Course bread, dinner, Side Dish
Servings 10 tortillas

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 1 tsp butter or oil

Instructions

  • Mix flour, salt, and baking powder in a medium sized bowl.
  • Add warm water. You should get a thick, pliable dough that looks similar to a thick biscuit dough.
  • Roll the dough into a ball then divide into 10 equal sections (8 sections for larger tortillas). Roll the dough out thinly on a well floured surface. You may find it easier to pick up the dough with a flat metal spatula since the thin dough will break easily on transfer.
  • Preheat cast iron skillet or griddle to medium heat. Melt butter on skillet top then place tortilla dough on hot surface. Allow to cook for about 1-2 minutes. Flip the tortilla and cook an additional 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • Repeat the process until all the tortillas have been cooked. Wrap the tortillas in towel as you cook them to keep them warm.
