Mix flour, salt, and baking powder in a medium sized bowl.
Add warm water. You should get a thick, pliable dough that looks similar to a thick biscuit dough.
Roll the dough into a ball then divide into 10 equal sections (8 sections for larger tortillas). Roll the dough out thinly on a well floured surface. You may find it easier to pick up the dough with a flat metal spatula since the thin dough will break easily on transfer.
Preheat cast iron skillet or griddle to medium heat. Melt butter on skillet top then place tortilla dough on hot surface. Allow to cook for about 1-2 minutes. Flip the tortilla and cook an additional 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat.
Repeat the process until all the tortillas have been cooked. Wrap the tortillas in towel as you cook them to keep them warm.
